N.S Memorial Institute of Medical Sciences (NSMIMS) is a prestigious multispeciality hospital located by N.H bypass, Palathara, Kollam, N.S Memorial Institute of Medical Sciences (NSMIMS) NSMIMS is the first venture of Kollam District Co-operative Hospital Society. A tribute to Co-operative movement and the late leader, N Sreedharan, the hospital started functioning since February 2006. Built in memory of the renowned politician and humanitarian, Com. N. Sreedharan popularly known as N.S, the hospital tries to live upto his values. N.S was a great propagator of the Communist Movement in Kerala, an idol in the socio-political field and a favourite leader among the masses. He died in an accident while serving as the State Secretariat Member of the party on February 17th 1985 at Kottarakkara.
N.S. Memorial Institute of Medical Sciences was inaugurated by Sri. Prakash Karat, General Secretary, Communist Party of India (Marxist) in presence of Sri. P.K. Gurudas, Hon: Minister for Labour & Excise, Kerala, Sri. P. Rajendran, Member of Parliament, Kollam constituency and other eminent personalities.
More than 300 highly trained, skilled and motivated medical and paramedical staff utilize their expertise to the best insterests of the patients. There are 17 specialty departments and 40 doctors including 25 post graduate doctors. With a working capital of 14 crore Rupees collected from 2300 share holders and 80 institutions, the hospital is developing fast. The share holders can avail free treatment in any hospital in India up to the share amount.
The past two decades have seen a rapid expansion of the corporate agenda in the field of health and health care. Rather than moving toward a system of universal access to medical care the government sector is slowly moving away from health sector. Patients are now “clients” and clinical services are “product lines”. More clinical research is now funded by the pharmaceutical industry than the National Health & FW Institutes.
A disease-free world is our ultimate aim. Though science and technology and medical science are progressing in immense speed, the number of diseases is also growing high. Due to many reasons, the hospitals in the government sector can’t perform well. This spaces were filled by the luxurious five star standard hospitals. We are providing discount facilities for BPL category patients . There wil be a reduction of 30% from the total amount excluding medicine fees. They have to produce both orginal and photostat copies of rationcard and id card of the patient (if not which ever is reliable to prove the identity) at the time of admission.
NSMIMS has started with a vision to serve the poor. We consider disease as a social problem and medical treatment as a social service. Best and cost effective treatment is our aim. For the last two years, we had given Specialty treatment with the help of Specialists and Modern equipments to many at low cost. We are proud to say that our treatment cost is 40% less when compared to the other hospitals in our District. We are giving up to 20% reduction to insulin products through our pharmacy for everyone.
